The Challenge

Dean returned to us for his second Time bike after purchasing a Time ADH road bike the previous year. Travelling all the way from Cornwall, he had been impressed by our attention to detail, technical knowledge, and the precision of our first build together. This time, he wanted a gravel race machine capable of performing at elite age-group level in the UCI Gralloch Gravel Race in Scotland — an event known for its rugged terrain, steep gradients, and high speeds.

His priority was clear: match the fit and geometry of his existing Time road bike as closely as possible, while adapting the setup to meet the demands of off-road competition.

Our Approach

We started by assessing Dean’s road fit and translating it into a gravel-specific position. We recommended bringing the front end slightly higher and shorter than his road setup to improve handling and control on rougher terrain while maintaining an efficient racing posture.

For drivetrain performance, we selected Shimano’s new GRX Di2 groupset, offering precise electronic shifting designed for the wide-ranging speeds and torque demands of competitive gravel racing.

Wheel and tyre choice was critical for the rocky course at The Gralloch. We opted for a bulletproof combination of DT Swiss rims and hubs, paired with Schwalbe Overland 45mm tyres — a setup that provides durability, grip, and rolling efficiency over harsh Scottish gravel.

Throughout the process, Dean expressed how much he values the rarity of Time bikes and their exceptional ride quality — a sentiment we share. Building a second Time for him meant ensuring this ADHX 45 delivered the same premium feel, but with off-road capability dialled for racing.

The Result

The finished Time ADHX 45 is a fast, responsive, and rugged gravel race bike, perfectly built for the technical and physical challenges of The Gralloch. It offers a race-tuned fit, elite-level components, and the distinctive refinement that makes Time bikes stand out in a crowded field.
