Custom Time ADH XL Aero Race Build for Tall Rider
Project Brief: Create a fast, lightweight race bike tailored for a 6’4″ rider seeking an ultra-aggressive aerodynamic position
Bike of Choice: Time ADH (XL) — Custom Build
The Challenge
Tom approached us with a clear vision: he wanted a bike that would allow him to achieve an exceptionally aggressive, aerodynamic fit on a frame you don’t see every day. At 6’4″, Tom presents the kind of fit challenge we enjoy — finding the perfect balance between reach, stability, and aerodynamics for a tall, powerful rider who refuses to compromise on performance.
Tall riders naturally create more aerodynamic drag, so Tom’s priority was to stretch out into a low, streamlined position that would help minimise frontal area during high-speed racing and group rides.
Our Approach
After carrying out Tom’s bike fit, it was clear that he needed a uniquely long and low setup. To achieve the position he wanted, we selected a 170mm stem — an unusually long but necessary choice to extend his reach and optimise his aero profile. We paired this with 170mm crank arms, ensuring his hip angle remained open and comfortable despite the slammed front end.
Because this bike will see regular racing — where crashes are a realistic possibility — we chose a Shimano 105 groupset and alloy finishing kit, striking a smart balance between performance, durability, and replacement practicality.
Given Tom’s high power output, we equipped the build with wheels featuring a higher spoke count to increase strength, stiffness, and power transfer under load. This ensured the wheels could withstand race-level forces while delivering consistent performance.
The Result
The final build — a Time ADH XL in a fully custom configuration — is a rare, aggressively fitted race bike built specifically to meet the demands of a tall, high-powered rider. It delivers the stretched-out aerodynamic position Tom was seeking, while maintaining responsive handling, durability, and efficiency.
Client Feedback
“I loved the process of building this bike. Achieving a position that allows me to tuck down and put the watts out is important. The bike rides incredibly well, providing a stiff and supple ride that I have not had before with other carbon race bikes.”
Tom’s satisfaction with the ride and fit highlights exactly why we love custom building — taking unique rider needs and turning them into bikes that feel truly one-of-one.
